having been defeated decisively

ecclesiastically and publically
put to death or blinded via cults of icons
wiser minds as predecessors conspire
to undermine popularized piety

by commanding armies
sipping blood in drinking cups
of the humbled never having recovered

once summoned by zealots
told to, " SHUT UP!!! "
as was the custom

while ceasing to function
as way-too vulnerable
drastically reduced in numbers
as moribund cultures...
